Father son match 22/23
Congratulations to the Cubs on a fantastic victory yesterday taking down their arch enemies ‘the Dads’ with a comfortable victory in front of a big crowd on Wyndhamvale reserve main oval!
After winning the toss and sending the cubs into bat the Dads found the early start and perhaps a big night prior too much to deal with! Dropped catches, mis fielding, overthrows, heated confrontations with the officials and just pure laziness saw the cubs go to drinks at 1/116. After drinks the onslaught continued and by the close of innings the cubs had amassed a basically unbeatable 6/262 from their 20 overs!
As the dads went out to bat we had no choice but to hit everything to the boundary needing a ridiculous 13 runs per over. After a maiden from Oscar Campbell to start the innings and Chilly’s twitchy leg getting the better of him and standing on the stumps the dads were staring down the barrel of defeat at 1/14 after 4. Then began the resurgence, big innings from the next 8 batsmen lifted the run rate enormously and gave the dads a slim chance at the cubs total. As the Dads skipper walked out to the crease as the last batsman, Cubs captain William had a massive brain fart and decided to slap the opposing skipper in the arse (his dad). Square leg umpire Bailey Rossiter alerted the central umpire of the indiscretion and central umpire Jake Rippon was not impressed, giving an official warning to the cubs captain and penalising the team 15 runs. Dillon and I needed an unlikely 60 runs from the final 3 overs and at the closure of play the dads fell 23 runs short of the target!
Jake Rippon was a force to be reckoned with as central umpire! Handing out a total of 55 penalty runs, 4 official warnings, and dragging 1 of the dads out of the attack for dangerous bowling. Putting the word central back into central umpire!!
But a huge thank you to Jake for devoting your time to not only the game but also to the kids at training this year, they all really look up to and are inspired by you! Dare I say it but we might have another 20 Jake Rippon’s running about the club in another few years!! ALSO, a big thank you to the Spin Doctor for your work as square leg umpire, Pallavi Joshi once again for scoring and Jay Dolliver for cooking our lunch! Days like this are not successful without the work and support that you give!! OVERALL, the day was a huge success and an amazing conclusion to what has been an unforgettable year of Juniors from our young superstars! I’m so happy to finally have a rest but I can guarantee I’ll be missing you all in a few weeks time!
